Pera, 53, is running in Illinois' 3rd Congressional District against incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski.

He said the endorsement of a reformer like Claypool is truly an asset to the campaign.

"Commissioner Claypool is one of the leading reformers in the state and he has received tremendous support from voters in our district," Pera said.

Claypool said Pera represents mainstream Democratic values and offers an opportunity for real change.

"Voters are ready to turn the page on old-style patronage politics. We need new independent leaders who will serve only the public interest, not the interests of ward bosses, lobbyists and special interests. We can't afford that game anymore," he said.

"Pera, as an experienced prosecutor, has devoted his career to serving the public interests. He knows the value of public service and I look forward to seeing him serve the 3rd district in the U.S. Congress."
