Democrat Mark Pera's name will appear first on the Feb. 5 Primary Election ballot for voters in Illinois' 3rd Congressional District.

The names of three candidates will follow Pera's name on the ballot. The ballot order was determined on Nov. 14 during a random drawing conducted by the Illinois State Board of Elections.

In order to appear on the ballot, candidates were required to submit 891 signatures to the state board of elections. Mark Pera for Congress filed more than 2,500 signatures on the Oct. 29 filing date.

If the campaign season seems to be coming earlier this year, that's because it is scheduled to take place earlier than it ever has been before.

The primary takes place seven weeks earlier than it did in 2006. Feb. 5 is the earliest primary election date in Illinois history and the four-way contest is just 78 days away.

Pera, 53, is an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney, a long-time Western Springs resident and President of the Lyons Township High School Board of Education.
